William Brand – an award-winning architect and sculptor – is driven by an enduring passion for creation. As a multidisciplinary artist, he moves freely between art, architecture and design, blending materials and forms into sculptural lighting.
In his work, he masterfully blends materials and forms, drawing inspiration from nature, archetypes, music, film, universal human emotions and his own life experiences.
Sculpting stories into metal, glass, gems and minerals, he gives shape to hidden narratives, infusing each piece with a soul of its own.
From visions to objects
In 1989, with the wish to transform and elevate spaces through light, William founded Brand van Egmond, an atelier dedicated to crafting light objects that blur the line between function and art.
What begins as a simple notebook sketch grows organically into a sculptural lighting object with character, crafted exclusively by hand and with love.
He is an artist who sticks to his attitude, working by himself, with his own hands – drawing on cardboard, cutting the metals and molding the plaster prototypes to produce one-off pieces.
Shaping bespoke light
Customisation lies at the heart of William’s work. Together with his team, he creates customised and specially commissioned lighting sculptures that respond to the architecture, the narrative of the project, and deeply personal stories.
Collaborating with leading architects and interior designers worldwide, he shapes objects that thrive in a wide range of interiors, from royal residences and boutique hotels to exclusive restaurants and galleries. In every case, the space itself remains his true partner in creation — grounding the design and ensuring that each lighting sculpture feels inherently connected to the interior it illuminates.
