Customised Bubbles Collection
Vienna, Austria
In the heart of Vienna’s museum district, Hotel Sans Souci positions itself at the intersection of art, culture, and contemporary hospitality. Within this context, Veranda Brasserie & Bar offers a dining environment where atmosphere is constructed with the same care as cuisine — balancing material richness, restraint, and a sense of composed ease.
At the centre of the space, above the circular bar, Brand van Egmond created a bespoke lighting sculpture that follows the geometry of the interior with a soft, continuous rhythm. This object, based on the BUBBLES collection, is formed from suspended mouth-blown glass spheres, each subtly tinted and individually placed to respond to the proportions of the room. Rather than forming a fixed structure, the installation reads as a hovering field — shifting in density and reflection depending on viewpoint and light.
The glass elements capture and return the surrounding palette: warm amber tones, bronze accents, and the deeper shades of the interior furnishings. Their surface interaction with light introduces a quiet variability, where reflections appear and dissolve across the bar’s circular form. The result is a layered visual presence that supports movement, conversation, and transition within the space.
Designed by William Brand and handcrafted in the Brand van Egmond atelier, the installation reflects a design approach rooted in dialogue with the space itself.
In hospitality environments such as Veranda Brasserie & Bar, lighting plays a structural role in shaping experience. Here, the Bubbles composition becomes part of the restaurant’s spatial logic — a suspended presence that connects architecture, material, and moment into a single continuous atmosphere.
